Early Childhood Educator/Infant Toddler Caregiver Positions

FULL TIME, PART TIME and SUBSTITUTE positions available

The Fernie Child Care Society (FCCS) Daycare is currently seeking individuals to work as ECE (Early Childhood Educator) Caregivers within a busy daycare setting.

Reporting to the FCCS Manager, ECE Caregivers will be responsible for the care and supervision of children within the daycare, as well as the development and facilitation of age appropriate programs at the daycare located in Fernie, British Columbia. Full time (40 hours per week), part time and substitute positions are available. ECE Caregivers will work either within the Infant/Toddler program for children aged 10 months to 3 years old, or within the program for 3 to 5 year olds. The daycare operates on a Monday to Friday schedule.


  • Care and supervision of the children in the daycare
    • Provide various experiences and activities for children including songs, games and story telling
    • Build children's self esteem
    • Establish routines and provide positive guidance
    • Provide opportunities for sleep and/or rest time
    • Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable
    • Implement positive discipline when required
    • Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand
    • Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program
    • Ensure adequate equipment and activities provided
    • Ensure equipment and facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times
    • Provide weekly schedules of activities
    • Adhere to policies and procedures for working with children
    • Ensure emergency procedures are well known and effectively implemented at all times
    • Ensure children are effectively supervised at all times as per licensing regulations and requirements

  • Valid Early Childhood Educator and/or Infant Toddler Educator Certificate
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development theories and practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, and policies and procedures to ensure that children are supervised and safe at all times
  • Experience with child program development, implement and evaluation
  • The incumbent must possess and demonstrate the following skills:

  • If shortlisted for the position, the following must be provided prior to commencing work according to the BC Community Care Facilities licensing requirements:
    • Letter from doctor stating mental and physical ability to work with young children
    • Criminal record check
    • Three letters of reference by ECE’s
